Goal is to build a building with three classrooms, another building with three classrooms and an office, two buildings with two toilets each, and also to purchase two 550 gallon water tanks. These will be built and supplied in Djabal refugee camp near Goz Beida in eastern Chad. Each classroom will have a twenty-five student capacity, so 150 Darfuri refugee students and six teachers can be served at any given time (the bathrooms and water tanks will be for them also).
Once we reach 30% of our fundraising goal, OMI will start building, DOHS will monitor the progress on site and provide donors with regular updates.
Donations must be made only through our project page on Global Giving’s website:
School buildings will be built in this style:
Our thanks to our Vice-President, Mohamed Adam Abdallah, for keeping in close touch with the resident leaders at Djabal, as well as with the UNHCR-recommdened builder, OMI. Mr. Abdallah lived in one of eastern Chad’s refugee camps from 2004 to 2007, and so has a special rapport with the Djabal camp residents (and all of our Board are from Darfur, Sudan). Thanks also to our Secretary Abdulatif Isaak and our Treasurer Mohammed Abdulrahman for reaching out to contacts in Chad.
Our thanks also to UNHCR Chad for guiding us throughout the year on this project, and for referring us to OMI.
